Treasure Valley Search Dogs, formed in January of 2002, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. TVSD is a volunteer search and rescue organization on call 24 hours a day to assist law enforcement and other emergency service agencies in locating lost or missing persons. We are committed to training and education in order to provide qualified dogs and handlers to the community. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WHAT'S UP?: (sampling of what we've been up to) TVSD is hosting a K9 SAR Workshop Friday-Sunday Jun 27th-29th, 2008. Cost is $125 per team. The Workshop will be held in the Boise area and will be limited to 10 K-9 teams to allow individual attention and access to training sites. There will be hands on training and field work offered in cadaver, trailing, and wilderness. Paula McCollum of Treasure Valley Search Dogs/Precision K-9 (www.precisionk-9.com) and Ann Christensen of Idaho Search and Rescue Dogs/High Country Shepherds (www.isard.org or www.highcountryshepherds.com) will be available to mentor teams. Ann is also an instructor for the American Heart Association and will provide a CPR/First Aid certification class for a small additional fee. If you would like to attend or need more information, contact Paula at 208-850-4124 or paulaxan@fiberpipe.net. Paula and K9s Jeb and Suzie attended the NAPWDA (North American Police Work Dog Assoc -- www.napwda.com) Western States Workshop in August 2007. This year their Cadaver certification was opened up to civilians. Jeb tested and passed his Cadaver, Tracking, Area and Obedience certifications. Suzie tested and passed her Tracking, Trailing and Obedience certifications. Congratulations!!! TVSD was active on the official Jon Francis search as well as the continuing search run by Jeff Hasse, SMG and the Francis family. In July 2007 the remains of Jon were found. While TVSD never searched in the area he was found, a K9 team along with K9 teams from UT and WY were scheduled to be in that area the following weekend. We did go up after the fact to assist in locating more remains. Our deepest sympathies go out to the Francis Family. We are grateful for their support as well as the support of the JFF - Jon Francis Foundation. TVSD's Fundraiser, THAT'S MY DOG! Show was a great success in 2006, however, we are postphoning our 2nd That's My Dog! Show until a later date, when we will have more resources available to help us put on a first rate event. Our 1st Annual That's My Dog! Show was a great success!! Thank you to everyone for participating and especially to Pet Friendly Magazine for their support! Click Here for Photos Susan and K9 Cinder traveled to South Dakota for more wilderness training. Kudos to Susan for her many years of dedication to TVSD. Paula and K9s Jeb and Suzie attended an HRD seminar in Shelley, ID mid-May 2007. Jeb and Paula passed their IPWDA Basic Cadaver certification while there! CONGRATS!! (IPWDA - International Police Working Dog Assoc - www.ipwda.org) Susan and K9 Cinder spent a week in NC in March 2007 doing nothing but SAR dog training! We envy her but are thrilled at the dedication our members show to working as top notch SAR K9 teams.
